Bill Murray is the founder of Murray & Young. Murray & Young provide financial statement and tax return preparation services to corporations, partnerships, trusts and individuals. In addition, the Firm also provides both income and estate tax planning services and audit and collection representation services before the Internal Revenue Service and Franchise Tax Board. The Firm has successfully negotiated over 100 Offers in Compromise, and annually files over 700 delinquent years tax returns.
The Firm also provides consulting services in the fields of business valuations and litigation support. Bill has appeared as an expert witness before the Sacramento, Yolo, El Dorado, Solano, and Los Angeles County Superior Courts. His testimony has included computations of damages due to personal injury, wrongful termination, and business interruption. He has also utilized his forensic accounting experience in the evaluation of the opposing parties' claims and in the computation of community property interests. In addition, he has served as the accountant for creditor committees in bankruptcy cases and as a court appointed receiver on numerous occasions.
Bill's business valuation experience includes valuation of professional practices, service organizations, manufacturing concerns, construction contractors, and retail operations. He has been appointed by the Sacramento Superior Court to appraise businesses in both family law and shareholder dissolution matters, and his valuations have also been used in establishing a basis for buy-sell agreements, determining shareholder buy-outs, and annual valuations of employee stock ownership plans.
Prior to entering public practice, Bill was an Internal Revenue Service Agent for six years, serving in both Springfield, Missouri and Washington, D.C. In Springfield, Bill was responsible for the examination of individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns of small and medium size businesses. He also coordinated several examinations with the Criminal Investigation Division investigating possible criminal and civil violations of the Internal Revenue Code. He also participated in an investigation of a bribery attempt with the Inspection Division. During this employment, Bill received a Special Achievement Award from the St. Louis District Director of the Internal Revenue Service.
In Washington, D.C., Bill was a member of the Office of International Operations. His duties included both conducting and coordinating the examinations of foreign entertainers who performed in the United States, and acting as an instructor for new agents.
